CONSTRUCTIVIST TABLE

In MCEN 5279: Aesthetics in Design, I designed and built a table in the Constructivist aesthetic, a Soviet-era Russian art movement. The entire table is made of recycled plywood and two dowel rods I serendipitously found on the floor of the art building.

Construction

All connections in my design incorporate joinery alongside wood glue and/or fasteners. Here, I am testing two slots that I cut with a bandsaw.

Final Product

This photo was taken around 5:30AM, after I’d been working on this project nonstop since 11AM the morning prior. I felt just as insane as I look. I proceeded to go home and sleep until noon.
